HØST is one of Norway’s pioneering rock bands, originating from the small town of Knapstad in Østfold in 1971. Blending the raw power of hard rock with the complexity and musical depth of progressive rock, HØST became one of the first Norwegian bands to perform original rock music in the Norwegian language, helping shape the foundation of Norway’s rock scene.

Known for their powerful twin guitar sound, dynamic arrangements, and emotionally charged lyrics, HØST quickly built a reputation through electrifying live performances and a fearless musical identity. Their sound fused heavy riffs, melodic sophistication, and progressive experimentation, creating music that was both technically impressive and deeply expressive.

The classic HØST lineup featured Geir Morgan Jahren (vocals), Svein Rønning (guitar/vocals), Lasse Nilsen (guitar/vocals), Knut R. Lie (drums/vocals), and Bernt Bodal (bass). Together, they recorded two landmark albums, På Sterke Vinger (1974) and Hardt Mot Hardt (1976), both of which remain highly respected among collectors, musicians, and progressive rock fans worldwide.

More than five decades later, HØST’s music continues to resonate across generations. Their songs remain celebrated for their originality, musicianship, and timeless energy. The band’s legacy lives on not only through their recordings, but through renewed live performances that prove their music has lost none of its power.

 

In February 2026, HØST suffered the heartbreaking loss of our beloved bassist and brother, Bernt Bodal. Bernt was far more than an extraordinary musician. He was a loyal friend, a passionate supporter of the band, and a deeply loved part of the HØST family. His spirit, warmth, humor, and unmistakable presence will forever remain woven into the soul of this band. Though he is no longer with us on stage, his legacy lives on in every note we play.

 

With great respect for Bernt’s memory and the music he helped create, HØST now welcomes Terje Støldal as bassist. Terje joins the band with deep admiration for HØST’s history and a heartfelt commitment to carrying the music forward while honoring Bernt’s enduring legacy.

 

HØST is more than a band. It is a defining chapter in Norwegian rock history.
